Electric Motorcycles: The Future of Learning to Ride
As a dedicated motorcyclist with twenty years of experience and a wide range of motorcycles under my belt, I can confidently say that electric motorcycles are not just trendy, they are an ideal way to master motorcycle dynamics. While this may sound controversial, it is undeniably true.
Compared to traditional combustion motorcycles, electric bikes offer a unique focus. Riders pay closer attention to their body positioning, braking techniques, throttle control, and the overall dynamics of the road and suspension. With less noise and fewer distractions, riders can truly concentrate on honing their skills.
That's why I personally use the Stark Varg EX in my garage to improve my off-road riding abilities. The electric bike allows me to focus on the fundamentals and progress in my skills.
I was thrilled to learn that LiveWire will be introducing introductory motorcycling classes that can help riders bypass the DMV's practical test using electric motorcycles. This initiative aims to break down barriers and empower the next generation of riders.
LiveWire CEO Karim Donnez stated, "This partnership is about breaking down barriers and empowering the next generation of riders. By integrating LiveWire motorcycles into rider training, Bartels’ is redefining what it means to learn to ride—making it more accessible, more intuitive, and better aligned with the future of motorcycling."
Bartels’ Harley-Davidson Riding Academy in Marina del Rey, California, is the first academy in the nation to offer all-electric classes. Students will have access to LiveWire S2 Mulholland and Alpinista motorcycles, specially equipped for classroom use.
Graduates of the New Rider Course at Bartels' will receive a Basic RiderCourse (BRC) completion card, eliminating the need for a practical exam at the DMV when applying for their M endorsement. This streamlined process makes it easier for new riders to get licensed.
Not only does this program benefit new riders by simplifying the learning process, but it also provides LiveWire and Harley-Davidson with an entry-level option that can be used in training and then sold to students. This addresses a long-standing issue for Harley, offering a less intimidating option for new riders.
While this partnership may not prevent LiveWire from merging with Harley in the future, it represents a positive step forward for both companies. It allows newcomers to learn to ride without the fear of common mistakes, creating a more welcoming environment for aspiring motorcyclists.
This is a significant development in the world of motorcycling and a promising step towards the future of electric motorcycles.
