There's No Substitute for a Triple

It's an undeniable fact of life that there is no replacement for a triple engine. The unique feel, sound, and response of a triple is incomparable to any other type of engine. While other bikes with different configurations can also be excellent, there is a distinctiveness to a triple that sets it apart. The Yamaha MT-09 SP, for example, received high praise from the team at RideApart due to its exceptional performance.

If you're a fan of the Yamaha Ténéré 700 but wish it had a CP3 powerplant, then you'll be interested in the latest custom build from Australia's Purpose Built Moto. They've created the Yamaha MT-09 Rally Raid, a bike that combines the Ténéré 700 with a triple engine for a unique riding experience.

The bike features hand-formed aluminum bodywork that mimics the look of plastics, paying homage to the Dakar rally days. However, the attention to detail goes beyond just aesthetics. The suspension has been upgraded to make it more suitable for adventure riding, with a KTM 1190 front end swap included in the modifications.

Engine protection was also a priority, given the bike's ADV capabilities. The end result is a powerful, lightweight bike with the distinctive sound and character of a triple engine. While it may be a long shot for Yamaha to produce a T9 model, the Yamaha MT-09 Rally Raid certainly sparks the imagination.
