RideApart: Yamaha Vino Scooter Gets Refreshed with New Colors

At RideApart, we have a passion for scooters and other small-displacement motorcycles. Unfortunately, many of these compact two-wheelers are not available in the US. Our US-based readers will either have to travel abroad or live vicariously through us, as we have easy access to these bikes in Southeast Asia.

In Japan, Yamaha has released an updated version of one of its most popular scooters, the Vino. The Yamaha Vino was first introduced in 2004 and has remained relatively unchanged since then. Yamaha has maintained its simple and charming design while updating it to meet modern performance and emissions standards. For the 2024 model year, the Vino is making a comeback with new paint options.

In 2024, the Vino will be available in three additional colors exclusively in Japan - Fighting Red, Matte Jeans Blue Metallic, and Puco Blue. Yamaha states that each color is meant to highlight the playful and charming nature of the Vino. The new Fighting Red colorway embodies the scooter's retro inspiration and features black accents on the saddle and footrests. The Matte Jeans Blue Metallic colorway adds a sporty touch with gray accents for contrast. Lastly, the Puco Blue colorway emphasizes the scooter's casual styling, making it suitable for both commuting and lifestyle purposes.

Aside from the new colors, the Yamaha Vino will continue to be offered in Beige, Brown, and Black in Japan, providing a total of six color choices for buyers.

The design of the Yamaha Vino aims to combine both lifestyle and practicality. Its retro styling sets it apart from other scooters, while its practical features impress. It offers a large storage compartment and a hook for hanging bags on the front apron. The glove box in the front has a charging port for powering devices on the go. The Vino also includes a rear wheel lock and key cylinder shutter for theft prevention. Its minimalist instrument cluster displays the time, fuel level, speed, and service interval.

In terms of performance, the Vino is equipped with a compact and efficient engine - a 50cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, SOHC, single-cylinder engine. Yamaha claims an impressive fuel economy of 58.4 kilometers per liter (approximately 137 miles per gallon), providing a good range with its 4.5-liter (1.2-gallon) fuel tank. The Vino is priced affordably at 214,500 yen, which is around $1,434 USD.
