Taiwanese Electric Mobility Company Gogoro Expands into India with New CrossOver GX250 Model

Taiwanese electric mobility company Gogoro is making waves in the urban mobility sector with its aggressive expansion programs. The company has recently introduced its battery swapping infrastructure and a new model, the CrossOver GX250, in India.

India, known for its large motorcycle market and challenging road conditions, presents a unique opportunity for Gogoro. The CrossOver GX250 has been specifically designed to handle the demands of the Indian metropolis and off-road terrain. Gogoro's founder and CEO sees great potential in the Indian market, particularly in meeting the needs of Indian commuters.

The CrossOver GX250 is Gogoro's first two-wheeler manufactured in India. Horacio Luke, the company's CEO, stated, "The Gogoro CrossOver series embodies everything our brand stands for, and the new made-in-India CrossOver GX250 is optimized for riders in India with more seating space, greater storage, and better ground clearance." The model features an all-terrain frame that prioritizes comfort, ease-of-use, and practicality, including ample storage space under the seat.

Technologically, the CrossOver GX250 is powered by a 2.5-kilowatt Direct Drive electric motor, enabling a top speed of over 45 miles per hour and a real-world range of 70 miles on a single charge. Battery swapping is quick and easy, a hallmark of Gogoro's models. The CrossOver GX250 distinguishes itself with enhanced suspension for carrying extra cargo. It also offers multiple storage areas and the option to install luggage racks and carriers.

The Gogoro CrossOver GX250 has received certification from India's International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT) and recognition from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for EV financing programs, making it more accessible to a wider audience. Gogoro aims to reshape urban mobility in a sustainable and energy-efficient manner with the new CrossOver model. Initially, the model will be available through a B2B business model for customers in Delhi and Goa, specifically targeting the last-mile delivery sector.

Horacio Luke emphasized the importance of the last-mile delivery sector in India and its potential for Gogoro's expansion. "On average, last mile delivery riders travel more than six times the distance of consumer riders, so enabling these delivery riders to adopt smart sustainable electric transportation can have an accelerated impact on a city," he said. In addition to the last-mile delivery sector, Gogoro plans to make the CrossOver model available to consumers by the second quarter of 2024, offering three models to choose from - the CrossOver GX250, CrossOver 50, and CrossOver S.
