Filipinos were eagerly anticipating the launch of the 2024 R 1300 GS by BMW, and it is safe to say that the model has a strong following. BMW Motorrad Philippines recently introduced its top-of-the-line adventure bike to much excitement, and rumors suggest that the brand has sold out its initial batch.
During the launch event, several orders were placed on the spot for the R 1300 GS. As soon as the covers were removed and BMW sales representatives began taking orders, customers eagerly pulled out their checkbooks, swiped their cards, and exchanged cash to reserve the brand-new adventure bike from the German brand.
Seeing the bike up close has piqued my interest. Enrico and I mentioned in our 'five bikes in 2024' articles that we are definitely on the waitlist to test the R 1300 GS. We can't wait to get our hands on the new model and put it to the test on and off the road.
For the Philippine market, there will be four variants available: Light White, Triple Black, GS Trophy, and Option 719. The two standard trim levels are equipped with the latest technology that BMW has to offer. The engine itself is a remarkable achievement, boasting a more compact form factor and a larger cubic centimeter count at 1300ccs. The engine delivers 145 horsepower, which is nine more than the R 1250 GS. Additionally, this is the first time that the brand's Adaptive Cruise Control has been incorporated into the GS nameplate, providing a new level of safety and convenience for any tourer or adventurous rider. Furthermore, features like the windshield can now be electronically adjusted with the push of a button.
Aside from that, the GS offers the standard set of features that you would expect, of which there are many. What's particularly interesting are the Trophy and Option 719 variants, which seem to have added flair and detailing thanks to the various components and accessories that adorn the bike.
The event venue was quite lively. BMW Motorrad Philippines not only invited members of the media to witness the launch of BMW's best adventure bike, but also welcomed clubs and vocal owners to participate and get a close look at the new bike. Inviting customers and clubs turned out to be a smart move, as all units in the initial batch sold out almost instantly.
The prices for the new GS were also revealed at the event. The bike starts at 1,675,000 PHP for the Light White variant (approximately $30,150 USD), 1,695,000 PHP for the Triple Black variant (approximately $30,500 USD), 1,715,000 PHP for the GS Trophy variant (approximately $30,690 USD), and 1,855,000 PHP for the Option 719 variant (approximately $33,390 USD). Please note that the conversions are based on the current exchange rates at the time of writing.
