Thai Yamaha Unveils the Yamaha PG-1
Thai Yamaha recently hosted an exclusive preview event for selected motorcycle press in Thailand to test out their latest model, the Yamaha PG-1. This new motorcycle will make its full debut at the 2023 Thai Motor Expo, taking place from November 30 to December 12, 2023 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The Yamaha PG-1 bears a resemblance to the Honda CT125 Hunter Cub, but a fairer comparison would be the Cross Cub 110, which has never been sold in the US. The Yamaha PG-1 features a 114cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, similar to the one found in the Yamaha Finn, a popular commuter scooter in Thailand.
While the pricing for the Yamaha PG-1 has not been officially announced, preorders have already begun. Interested buyers can choose from four available colors: Chill Blue, Humming Brown, Vivid Yellow, or Cool Black.
Thai Yamaha is offering an exclusive bonus for the first 100 buyers who preorder a PG-1 in Thailand. If you purchase a Yamaha PG-1 and equip it with either the Wanderlust Camper or Naughty Tracker accessory packs, you will receive a discount of 10,000 baht off the 15,000 baht MSRP for either of those kits.
The Wanderlust Camper pack includes various accessories such as hand guards, a USB charger, and carrier kits, while the Naughty Tracker pack includes a license plate holder, front number plate kit, and a skid plate. Both packs also come with a long-sleeve t-shirt and hat.
The Yamaha PG-1 may resemble the Honda CT125, but it competes more directly with the Cross Cub 110 in markets where it is sold. Interestingly, Honda does not offer the Cross Cub 110 in Thailand, but it does sell other popular models such as the Super Cub and Grom.
Yamaha's promotional artwork for the accessory packs has a similar design sensibility to Honda's Cub House. This is not the first time Yamaha has followed in Honda's footsteps in the small-displacement department, as they previously released the TownMate as a competitor to the Super Cub.
The success of the Yamaha PG-1 will depend on its pricing, which has yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting new motorcycle.
