Electric Dirtbikes Reshaping the Off-Road Scene
Electric dirtbikes are revolutionizing the off-road industry, bringing new life to the game with their lightweight, powerful, and silent performance. The increasing number of options available in the market is a clear indication of this trend. At EICMA 2023, numerous new electric off-roaders were showcased, with one standout being the Vida Concept Lynx, Hero MotoCorp's first venture into the electric off-road space.
Keeping Weight Low for Electric Off-Road Motorcycles
When it comes to electric off-road motorcycles, weight is a crucial factor. Electric motors offer instant throttle response and power from zero rpm, making them inherently torquey. Vida recognizes this and has managed to keep the weight of the Concept Lynx to a minimum - just 82 kilograms (approximately 181 pounds). Despite its low weight, the bike boasts a mid-mounted electric motor that delivers an impressive 15 kilowatts (around 21 horsepower) of power. This ensures snappy performance, further enhanced by its instantaneous torque.
Agility and Maneuverability Inspired by the Lynx Cat
Vida designed the Concept Lynx to be as agile and maneuverable as the lynx cat. The bike is said to offer significant power and torque from zero rpm, resulting in exceptional off-road performance. It excels in steep climbs, rocky terrain navigation, and maintaining traction on loose gravel and sand. The frame features an exposed trellis structure, not only adding to its cool appearance but also contributing to the bike's low weight.
Modern Technology and Customizable Performance
While Vida has not yet disclosed the full specifications of the Concept Lynx, it has confirmed that the electric off-roader will come equipped with a range of modern, connected technology. Through smartphone integration and a dedicated mobile app, riders can customize the bike's performance parameters based on their preferences and the terrain they are riding on. As for the battery, Vida had to sacrifice range to maintain a low weight. The Concept Lynx is equipped with a compact three-kilowatt-hour battery pack, providing approximately one hour of spirited riding.
Exciting Development for Indian Enthusiasts
Currently, the Lynx electric dirtbike is only a concept, and Hero MotoCorp and its electric subsidiary Vida have yet to announce pricing and availability details for the new bike. Nevertheless, the development of this concept is thrilling, especially for enthusiasts in India. Until now, Vida has focused solely on the utility and commuting segment with the V1 scooter.
