Shoei Introduces the GT-Air 3 Helmet with Enhanced Safety Features
Shoei, a renowned helmet company, is known for providing top-quality head protection to riders worldwide. With the introduction of a new safety standard, Shoei is once again stepping up to upgrade one of its most successful helmet models, the GT-Air.
The latest version of the GT-Air, known as the GT-Air 3, now complies with the ECE 22.06 homologation, making it the safest GT-Air model to date. This new iteration incorporates the latest advancements from Shoei's Japanese labs and meets the safety standards set by the European Commission. The Shoei Neotec 3 has also been updated to meet the new 22.06 homologation.
The design of the GT-Air 3 closely resembles its predecessor, the GT-Air 2. The shell remains similar, and from a distance, it may be difficult to distinguish between the two, especially when finished in the familiar matte blue of the GT-Air 2. However, the GT-Air 3 boasts significant improvements, including a revised venting system, a redesigned main visor with a centrally-located spring-loaded latch mechanism, slightly modified aerodynamics, and an enlarged sun visor. The helmet retains the comms unit adapter on the side and highlights the Shoei Comlink system on its website.
Internally, minor revisions have been made, possibly to meet the parameters of the ECE 22.06 standard. Shoei has enhanced the chinstrap, making it lighter, more comfortable to use, and convenient with its ratchet retention system. The chinstrap is still made of stainless steel, ensuring ample security.
Shoei has not provided many specific details in its preview, but based on the reputation of the GT-Air 2, the GT-Air 3 is expected to be one of the quietest helmets on the market when it officially goes on sale.
The GT-Air 3 will be available in three different shell sizes: XS to M, L with its own shell, and XL to XXL with another shell size. Four sizes of cheek pads will also be offered, measuring 31, 35, 39, and 43 mm. The helmet will come with a Pinlock shield and a chin curtain.
In terms of colors, the GT-Air 3 offers a similar lineup to the GT-Air 2. Solid color options include Black, Matte Black, Matte Blue Metallic, Brilliant Yellow, Matte Deep Grey, and White. Additionally, there are several graphic options available, such as the Discipline TC-1, TC-2, and TC-6, the Realm TC-1, TC-5, and TC-10, and the Scenario TC-3 and TC-5.
The exact release date and retail price have not been specified on the website, but it is expected that the helmet will be available before the end of 2023. Availability in the United States will be announced at a later date.
