Zongshen Yomi 125: A Chinese Chopper-Inspired Motorcycle

When you have a desire for a chopper but can only afford a scooter, there are two options: customize your scooter to resemble a chopper or get a Zongshen Yomi 125. This production motorcycle from Chinese manufacturer Zongshen may look like a backyard-built custom cruiser, but it is actually a popular bike from the brand.

Zongshen is a well-known Chinese brand, and we have previously discussed some of their bikes. While most of Zongshen's bikes adhere to the "industry standard" for two-wheelers, the Yomi 125 stands out. Recently launched in China, the Yomi adopts the styling of a classic American chopper, but in a mini-bike form. It features a long front end with a slack head angle and bodywork that imitates the custom look of US-made choppers.

Underneath the seat lies a small, beginner-friendly single-cylinder engine with a displacement of just 124 cubic centimeters. It produces a modest eight horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 5.4 pound-feet of torque at 6,000 rpm. The top speed is limited to 55 miles per hour. Interestingly, despite its chopper appearance, the Yomi 125 does not aim to replicate the riding experience of a chopper. Instead of a manual transmission, it has a scooter-derived CVT for maximum convenience.

The Zongshen Yomi 125 is an appealing option for young individuals looking to try out the two-wheeled lifestyle. With a low seat height of only 65 centimeters, even the shortest riders can confidently ride this bike. Additionally, it is lightweight at just 113 kilograms. Its affordability is another advantage, with a price of only 9,800 Yuan (approximately $1,352 USD). However, it seems that Zongshen has no plans to sell the Yomi 125 outside of China, so it is unlikely to be seen on US roads anytime soon.
