Twisted Spoke Memories
Many people in Chicago and beyond have fond memories of the Twisted Spoke. This legendary bar had two locations in the city - one in Boystown near the Brown Line, and the other in West Town at the intersection of Grand and Ogden. The food was amazing, and many people, including myself, had great nights there with friends.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The Boystown location closed several years ago, and the flagship in West Town closed its doors at the end of August 2025. However, Skelly the skeleton can still be seen riding his bike at the former West Town location.
Local residents are hoping to save Skelly by moving him to a median location at the intersection. A petition has been started by local artist Jon Satrom to keep Skelly in place, with the owners of the Twisted Spoke supporting the effort.
If you're unfamiliar with Chicago geography, keeping Skelly at the intersection of Grand and Ogden is important as he watches over his part of Route 66. You can support the effort by signing the petition and sharing the information with others.
