Protecting Public Lands with Yamaha's Outdoor Access Initiative

We are currently facing a time where our public lands are in danger, with threats to their funding, staffing, and operations, as well as the risk of being sold off or seized by the government. For example, the US Marines are trying to take over Johnson Valley, potentially ending events like King of the Hammers, and the 'Roadless Rule' has been overturned by federal authorities.

Despite these challenges, there are groups working to increase access, promote conservation, and defend our public lands, with Yamaha's Outdoor Access Initiative being a major player in this effort.

RideApart has previously highlighted the OAI's achievements, but in their latest update, Yamaha has reached a significant milestone by providing over $8 million to support public access and conservation projects. This is a cause for celebration.

"The Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative demonstrates our ongoing commitment to preserving access and encouraging responsible recreation on America's public lands," said Steve Nessl, Yamaha Motorsports marketing director. "Surpassing the $8 million mark showcases the significant impact made possible by our dealer partners, riding communities, and land stewardship organizations. Each project we support enhances opportunities for future generations to enjoy safe and sustainable outdoor activities."

Established in 2008, the OAI has funded 550 projects, including expanding OHV access, supporting educational programs, trail maintenance, land restoration, fire prevention efforts, and more. Despite the substantial funding already provided, Yamaha continues to accept grant applications, encouraging interested parties to apply for support.

"The Yamaha OAI accepts applications year-round and awards funding quarterly, prioritizing projects that promote safe and responsible OHV use, enhance and maintain trails, and preserve long-term public land access," the company stated. "The deadline for Q3 2025 grants is September 30. Public land managers, riding clubs, and outdoor organizations are encouraged to apply at YamahaOAI.com."

If your local off-road club, motorcycle group, or snowmobile guide service is interested in contributing to the protection of public lands, consider applying for an OAI grant from Yamaha. With just a few minutes of your time, you can receive additional funding to further enhance your stewardship efforts.

Well done, Yamaha!
