Honda's Pursuit of Carbon Neutrality in Two-Wheeled Vehicles
After a period of adjustment, Honda has been making steady progress towards achieving its carbon neutrality goals throughout the company. While Honda has focused more on electric vehicles (EVs) than two-wheeled vehicles, they have shared some updates on their efforts in the motorcycle realm.
Electrifying their workhorse and fleet two-wheelers has been a faster process compared to recreational motorbikes. This led to the introduction of the Benly e:, Gyro e:, and Gyro Canopy e: in Japan and other Asian markets where their traditional counterparts were popular.
Now, Honda has unveiled the WN7, the first EV motorcycle in their EV Fun lineup. The name may seem cryptic, with "W" standing for "Be the Wind" and "N" for "naked," reflecting the bike's design. The "7" indicates its output class, with performance comparable to 600cc ICE models in horsepower and 1000cc ICE models in torque.
While specific details are still pending, Honda estimates the WN7's range to be over 130 kilometers on a single charge. The Li-Ion battery is fixed and uses CCS2 fast charging, allowing for a 30-minute charge from 20 to 80 percent. Home charging takes around three hours.
The WN7 features a 5-inch TFT dash, connectivity with Honda's RoadSync app, and a modern design with bar-end mirrors and a sleek front headlight cluster. Pricing and availability details are yet to be revealed, leaving room for speculation on the bike's overall appeal.
