Riding Gear Review

Riding Gear Review

When you are out riding hard, the last thing you want to worry about is your gear. A quality helmet should simply do its job in the background - keeping you safe, cool, and focused - without drawing attention to itself. This is something that I have always admired about HJC.

Over the years, I have owned multiple helmets from HJC, and some of them are still in use today. These helmets are so comfortable that you forget you are even wearing them, which is exactly what you need when you are pushing the pace.

HJC has been producing helmets in South Korea for many years, offering a range that includes budget-friendly options as well as high-performance race helmets used in MotoGP. The RPHA line represents their most advanced designs.

The latest addition to the lineup is the RPHA 72, designed for riders who want premium features without the high price tag of European brands.

The helmet shell is constructed using HJC's Premium Integrated Matrix 2 (PIM 2) technology, which combines carbon fiber, aramid, and fiberglass for a lightweight yet durable helmet. The aerodynamic shape has been fine-tuned in wind tunnels to ensure stability at high speeds and reduce neck strain on long rides. Ventilation is provided by the Advanced Channeling Ventilation System (ACS), which directs airflow from front to back through intake vents and exhaust ports.

The visor system is another standout feature of the RPHA 72. The Pinlock-ready HJ-48 shield blocks UV rays and is scratch-resistant, while the internal sun visor can be easily deployed without distortion and features an anti-fog treatment. This setup is ideal for both highway cruising and spirited mountain rides.

Inside the helmet, you will find a liner made from quick-drying, antibacterial fabric. The crown and cheek pads are removable and washable, with grooves for glasses and emergency-release cheek pads for added safety. The helmet is also compatible with HJC's SMART Bluetooth systems (11B, 21B, and 50B) for communication on the go.

Priced at €459.90 (approximately $490 USD), the RPHA 72 is available in a variety of colors including Pearl White, Matte Black, Semi Flat Titanium, and more. Its understated design focuses on performance rather than flashy graphics, making it a top choice for riders who prioritize functionality.

For me, the RPHA 72 is a testament to why I continue to choose HJC. Their helmets are simple, well-designed, and allow you to concentrate on the ride.
