Motorcycle Recall

What's the worst malfunction a motorcycle can experience while riding?

I would have to say the front brake suddenly locking on or not working at all, but aside from that scary thought, losing power while riding is also a major concern.

Currently, Zero Motorcycles owners need to be aware of a potential issue. Zero Motorcycles Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain 2023-2024 DSR/X, 2024 DS, DSR, and DSRP motorcycles. The problem stems from improperly routed key switch signal wires that may break, resulting in a loss of drive power.

The firmware will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update at no cost to the owner. Notification letters are expected to be sent out on September 29, 2025. Owners can reach Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. The recall number for this issue is SV-RCL-025-018. There are potentially 319 affected units, and the NHTSA ID Number is 25V587000.

If you've been following RideApart for a while, you know we have a positive view of Zero and electric motorcycles in general. One key difference between an internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle and an electric one is the immediate torque available on an electric motorcycle. While this instant torque can make riding an electric motorcycle exciting, it also poses a greater risk if something goes wrong.

Overtaking a slow-moving vehicle on a Zero motorcycle feels almost instinctual, but it's also the worst time for your powertrain to fail. If you own one of the models mentioned in this recall, don't wait for the notification letter. Contact Zero's customer service and visit your local dealership promptly to receive the necessary update. And as you head there, avoid situations where you may need a sudden burst of power to navigate.
