Advantages of Having a Garmin inReach Device
Regular readers of RideApart are aware of my strong recommendation for individuals to carry a Garmin inReach device whenever they venture into unfamiliar territory. Whether you are hunting, hiking, riding dirt bikes, overlanding in UTVs or ATVs, or enjoying water sports with a jet ski, having a means to communicate with the outside world when there is no service is crucial for your safety and well-being.
Why is this so important? Because I have had some close calls in recent years, and my own inReach Mini 2 literally saved me when the radiator of a prototype snowmobile malfunctioned. A quick message through my inReach to my wife, prompt Search and Rescue assistance from my neighbors, and a tasty Uncrustable snack later, I was safe and sound.
Since then, Garmin has been kind enough to provide me with other inReach devices to test, including the new inReach Messenger Plus. I recently tested the durability of my inReach by tossing it onto some rocks for fun, and it came out unscathed.
Now, Garmin has introduced a new inReach device that aims to serve as a replacement for your smartphone, although it is not a smartphone itself. This device is the Garmin GPSMap H1i Plus, which I will be testing extensively in various environments over the next few months.
As I have early access to this device, I am curious to hear from you. What would you like to know about it? What tests would you like me to conduct? Feel free to suggest anything, as I am open to exploring all possibilities.
