At RideApart, we do not recommend or support engaging in a police pursuit. In fact, we believe it is a very foolish and risky thing to do. When we come across a particularly foolish example, we feel the need to call out and shame that rider. This incident involves a man in Peoria, Illinois, who was apprehended last week.

Law enforcement officers initiated a traffic stop upon noticing that the motorcycle was unregistered. The suspect, identified as Donald Shaw, attempted to flee. However, Shaw's escape was short-lived as he ran out of fuel during the pursuit. The most absurd part of the chase is yet to come.

Footage from a dashcam shared on the Peoria County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page shows Shaw's motorcycle running out of gas as he approaches an intersection. He is seen desperately trying to keep the bike running by revving the throttle. When it becomes clear that the motorcycle will not restart, Shaw attempts to flee on foot.

It would not have been difficult to catch up to Shaw, as demonstrated by the swift actions of the deputy, as shown in the video below.

It was later revealed that Shaw had multiple reasons for attempting to escape, aside from riding a stolen motorcycle. He was arrested for outstanding felony warrants, evading law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Given the footage, it is surprising that he managed to evade capture for as long as he did while committing these offenses.

We have covered previous instances of criminals making foolish attempts to evade capture, but is this the most ridiculous case of a motorcyclist trying to escape from the police that you have seen? Share your thoughts in the comments.
